Study Speaker Components
Assembled a Blast Box Speaker to learn the speaker structure and gained insights into achieving good sound quality.
Sketch
Sketch overlays on Rhino-modeled speaker components to explore the form while accounting for the internal structure.
Selected the highlighted ones because its elegant curves and smooth contours align with the form research, effectively conveying a modern aesthetic. Additionally, the full, rounded body supports stereo separation, enhancing the listening experience.
Mock-up
Laser-cut plywood to create a mockup for testing scale and portability. Noticed an awkward holding posture while walking with the speaker, so I narrowed the side profile to improve comfort.
Iterations
I created quick models in Rhino for the selected directions. After assessing the speaker cone and handle arrangement and addressing manufacturing challenges like sharp corners, I made additional adjustments before finalizing the design.
